Mura Masa has returned with his latest single, the infectiously energetic ‘Jump’ – listen to the track below.

The Guernsey-born DJ and producer is releasing the track on his own label Pond Recordings. It samples the Soca track ‘Hol Up Your Foot And Jump’ by Zulu Lightning, reworking it into a lithe, percussive dance track.

Watch the video for ‘Jump’ below, directed by previous Mura Masa collaborators The Reids and shot in New York with the dance group and charity Showdem Movement.

Mura Masa released his fourth studio album ‘Curve 1’ last August, which was described as a “dark departure from the pop-leaning narratives” of his two previous albums, allowing listeners to “make their own interpretation of its nocturnal roots”.

He is also a highly in-demand producer for other artists, having overseen the smash hit 2022 PinkPantheress song ‘Boy’s A Liar’. He also produced Shygirl’s Mercury-nominated 2022 album ‘Nymph’ and returned to working with PinkPantheress on the 2024 single ‘Turn It Up’.

Last month, Shygirl released her new EP ‘Club Shy Room 2’ and it was preceded by the lead single ‘F*Me’, which was also co-produced by Mura Masa.

‘Curve 1’ was Mura Masa’s first release as an independent artist, having decided to set up his own label. He has also founded the creative hub and arts space The Pond in Peckham, London, which is due to officially open next year.

Prior to ‘Curve 1’, he released the album ‘Demon Time’ in 2022. In a four-star reviewNME said: “‘Demon Time’ finds him uniting the cut‘n’splice nature of his earlier electronic music with the emo sensibilities of ‘R.Y.C’. It’s his most genre-hopping effort yet, containing ample nods to the early ‘00s music topping the charts during his childhood while embracing contemporary and future-facing tastes.”

“The Lil Uzi VertShygirl and PinkPantheress-featuring ‘Bbycakes’ is one such example. It’s a refresh of 3 Of A Kind’s 2004 UK garage hit that sees Crossan pay tribute to the original’s light bounce, this time flushed with trap-indebted beats and steel drums.”

NBA YoungBoy has been releasing a large amount of music this year, whether he is rebuilding his post-prison career or shutting down rap beef. His new YouTube diss track and music video, Zero IQ Freestyle, clearly falls into the latter category. Several lines either directly brush off NLE Choppa for his disses or subtly dismiss him as a fake hater. Backed by a loud, hard-hitting beat and his animated vocal delivery, the song feels extremely high-energy.

The lyrics are sharp and cutting, whether they are aimed at someone specific or not, and the track functions as a broad clap-back toward his many haters and personal frustrations. Even if YB chooses not to fully answer NLE The Great any time soon, he definitely made his bold and confrontational point with Zero IQ Freestyle.
