Lil Uzi Vert, Kodak Black and GloRilla are just some of the names that’ll be leading the way for Hip Hop at the 2023 Broccoli City Festival.
On Wednesday (March 1), the festival announced the lineup for its 2023 edition. Some of the people joining Uzi, Yak and Big Glo for the two-day festival include City Girls, Ice Spice, Mariah the Scientist, Lola Brooke, Brent Faiyaz, Chloe Bailey, Coco Jones and more.
The festival will take place July 15-16 at Washington D.C.’s RFK Stadium Festival Grounds, and general admission tickets, along with VIP options, will be on sale Friday (March 3) at 10 a.m. ET via the festival’s official website.
“This year’s lineup continues our tradition of celebrating culture in the DMV, both nationally and locally. We want to continue highlighting those who continue to play a role in driving progress in Black communities,” Brandon McEachern, co-founder of Broccoli City Festival, said in a statement.
He added: “Our goal is to always create a dope cultural experience and highlight a diverse group of artists who are taking Black music to new heights, and I’m proud of how it’s come together.”
The Broccoli City Festival has been going strong since the first one back in 2013. According to the festival’s website, Broccoli City Festival fosters “creativity and community growth by building innovative experiences that intersect technology, music, art, and social impact.”
Over the years, acts such as Migos, Cardi B, Cam’ron, Future, Jhené Aiko, Childish Gambino, Lil Wayne, Lil Baby and more have performed at the show. Last year’s lineup included 21 Savage, Ari Lennox, Lil Durk, Summer Walker, Jeezy, Gunna, Wizkid and more.
Wale was originally scheduled to perform but removed himself from the lineup. Fans believed it had something to do with him not performing as a headliner and claimed he was being too full of himself.
He took to Twitter to say he was “pullin’ out” of the event, and when a fan asked what the reason was, the rapper said: “Respect is why,” and revealed his decision had nothing to do with him not headlining.
Meanwhile, DJ Jazzy Jeff has settled the debate between Lil Uzi Vert and Meek Mill having the biggest song in Philadelphia.
With Lil Uzi Vert’s “Just Wanna Rock” enjoying plenty of success since its release in October, there’s been a lot of talk about whether it has dethroned Meek Mill’s “Dreams and Nightmares” as the city’s new anthem.
HipHopDX recently caught up with proud Philly native DJ Jazzy Jeff, who weighed in on the friendly debate between Uzi and Meek.
“I don’t think you could ever go against Meek Mill’s ‘Dreams and Nightmares,’” he said. “Lil Uzi’s ‘Just Wanna Rock’ is a dope song. Everybody loves it, but ‘Dreams and Nightmares’ took the city by storm. It took every sports team by storm, so it’s going to be ‘Dreams and Nightmares’ for me.”
Perry Farrell has released another public apology following an on-stage confrontation involving his bandmate Dave Navarro.
The Jane's Addiction frontman was involved in a physical altercation with guitarist Dave Navarro last year during a live performance, an incident that prompted the band to cancel their reunion tour and eventually led to their split.
“I'd like to address what happened on stage last year,” Perry, 66, said in a statement shared across both his personal Instagram account and Jane's Addiction’s official page. “I've reflected on it and know I didn't handle myself the way I should have. I apologize to our patrons and my bandmates for losing my temper and for disrupting the show.”
He went on to admit that he did not meet fan expectations and described himself as deeply remorseful toward everyone impacted by the incident.
“Jane's Addiction has been at the center of my life for decades. The band, the songs, the patrons, and the impact that we've had on music and culture mean more to me than any words I could ever possibly write down,” he shared.
“My aim has always been to give our audience the best possible show, something real, honest and positive. In Boston, we fell short of that, and I'm truly sorry to everyone who was impacted.”
Jane's Addiction also issued its own statement regarding the altercation, which ultimately led to the group’s remaining members filing a lawsuit against Perry alleging assault, battery, intentional infliction of emotional distress, negligence, breach of fiduciary duty, and breach of contract.
“Today we are here to announce that we have come together one last time to resolve our differences, so that the legacy of Jane's Addiction will remain the work the four of us created together,” the band wrote, signaling that the group would not move forward with Perry. “We now look forward to the future as we embark on our separate musical and creative endeavors.”
