BROOKLYN - After years of working as a master sonic manipulator for the movie industry and playing guitar for an R&B funk band, Frank Cogliano is stepping out front creating his niche in the electronic music industry that sets him apart from others.

“My music is hard to pin down with a label. It’s electronic, but it’s not on the dance side of things,” explained Frank Cogliano.

The East Coast native uses music samples and expands its sound to create his unique blend of music that he refers to as “ambient music.” Listeners are finding Cogliano’s music a relaxing escape from life.

“A lot of people say my music helps them sleep. That’s not necessarily my intent, but if I can help someone relax a little bit, I’m all for it,” he said

Cogliano experiments in the studio using different instruments to perfect his sound. The self-taught musician utilizes stringed instruments, including guitars, pedal steel guitar, a custom-built guitar viol, saz, and oud with a vast collection of analog gear and unusual synthesizers to capture his electronic signature sound.

“CRT” is Cogliano’s first EP release, which contains seven tracks showcasing his unique style of funk-inspired “ambient” electronic music. Currently, “Peace 2” is getting noticed by fans and popping up on various playlists. “It is a relaxing song,” he explained. “I think it’s got a good blend of ambient sound, but it also has some guitar in it with a little bit of subtle funk-influenced sounds.”

Before setting out on his own, Cogliano spent nearly a decade creating music for movies and television. Playing his romantic and soothing sounds made him the perfect musician to create romantic comedies on the Hallmark and Lifetime television channels. He has also worked on various Showtime productions and most recently can be heard playing guitar for the HBO Max Mortal Kombat movie.

Admitting to being a music fan of all genres, Cogliano said, “I like a wide range of styles, and I’ve been doing that for like ten years. So, this is the first time I decided I want to make some music purely because I want to make it and not because of an assignment or commission.”

Following the release of “CRT,” Cogliano is fulfilling a lifelong dream - making a vinyl record. “I’ve always wanted to have my music on vinyl ‘cuz I like listening to vinyl. So, I’m in the process of actually printing the full-length album with seventeen tracks that’s going to be released next year,” he said.

According to Cogliano, the upcoming album is going to be fresh and different from “CRT.” “When I’m working on my own stuff, I don’t have any kind of a restriction, which could be a good or bad thing. In the end, some of my tracks might sound completely different than others. I don’t set any rules for myself. It’s just music, and I let it speak for itself.”
