Tony Iommi is set to put out a brand new solo album later this year.
The Black Sabbath guitarist shared that he will “definitely” be releasing his first full solo project since 2005’s Fused, confirming the news in a New Year’s message addressed to fans and looking ahead to the coming year.
In a video shared on his YouTube channel, Tony explained: “I shall have definitely, definitely my solo album out. And I'm really looking forward to that. I'm enjoying doing that, and it's been great fun, and I really hope you enjoy it.”
At the same time, the 77 year old musician looked back on 2025, a year that included Black Sabbath’s monumental Back To The Beginning farewell concert at Villa Park in Birmingham this past July, held only weeks before frontman Ozzy Osbourne passed away at the age of 76.
Reflecting on that period, Iommi said: “We were presented with the Freedom Of The City from Birmingham, which was absolutely amazing. I mean, I never thought we'd ever get that, which is a great honour.
“They had a lot of paintings around of Sabbath on the walls, and it was really good. And all Birmingham became sort of a Sabbath city.”
He added: “It was really great seeing Ozzy, Bill (Ward) and Geezer (Butler) for the Freedom Of The City. And at that point, of course, we were into rehearsals for the Back To The Beginning show at the Villa grounds in Birmingham.
“And the amount of bands that turned up to support Sabbath on that was just fantastic. What a great event. And, of course, it raised a lot of money for charity.
“It's just unfortunate and sad that Ozzy passed away a couple of weeks after that, may he rest in peace.”
Tony has also spoken previously about his belief that Ozzy pushed himself to make it through one final performance with Black Sabbath before his death.
Speaking to ITV News after the loss of the legendary singer, the guitarist shared: “I think he really just held out to do that show. I really feel – and me and Geezer were talking about it last night – that we think he held out to do it, and just after that, he's done it and said goodbye to the fans. And that was the end of it, really.
“I think he must have had something in his head that said, 'Well, this is gonna be it, the last thing I'm ever gonna do.' Whether he thought he was gonna die or what, I don't know. But he really wanted to do it, and he was determined to do it. And fair dues, he's done it.”
MUNA have officially shared full details of their long awaited fourth studio album, Dancing On The Wall, which is scheduled to arrive on May 8.
The news comes with the release of the record’s title track and its accompanying official video, giving fans their first real look at what the trio’s new chapter sounds and feels like.
To mark the occasion, the group are planning a run of intimate underplay performances in Los Angeles, New York and London during release week. It will be a special opportunity to catch MUNA up close before they step back onto larger stages later this year.
Opening up about the project, the band described the title song as a standout moment within their body of work.
They shared: “Dancing On The Wall is possibly our favorite song we’ve made as a band. We think it’s all the best parts of MUNA – it’s coming from a really emotional and lonely place, but the song itself makes us feel powerful and euphoric. It’s written in the moment that the clock strikes midnight at the ball, and you have to give up the fantasy. In this case, it’s the fantasy of loving someone or something that can’t love you back.”
The 13 song album was produced by Naomi McPherson, allowing the band to take full creative ownership of the sound and direction. It is a project that pulls listeners straight to the dancefloor while still keeping its vulnerability front and center.
MUNA, made up of Katie Gavin and Josette Maskin alongside McPherson, have continued to build momentum over the years and were personally chosen by Harry Styles as the opening act for his first solo tour. Since then, they have also performed with Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour, in addition to sharing bills with Lorde, boygenius and Phoebe Bridgers.
Dancing On The Wall follows their 2022 self titled album, which marked their first release as independent artists after signing to Phoebe Bridgers’ Saddest Factory Records in 2021.
Fans can stream the title track across all major platforms now. For tickets to MUNA’s upcoming shows, visit laylo.com/whereismuna/m/munatour.
